Fuel cashback buying guide

What a fuel cashback offer really pays

Fuel is the most tightly capped cashback category in the UAE market. Caps of AED 100 to AED 250 a month are common, which means a headline 10% rate stops paying after AED 1,000 to AED 2,500 of fuel - roughly one to two tanks a week for most drivers. Past that point every card in this list pays the same as a plain flat-rate card.

Petrol is also one of the categories banks exclude most often from rewards cards altogether, and several of the cards that do pay on fuel require you to buy at a specific network. Check the station brand as well as the rate: a card paying 8% only at one operator is worth less than a lower rate accepted wherever you fill up.

Of the 21 fuel cashback cards on this page, 8 carry no annual fee and the most expensive costs AED 1,050 a year. Minimum salaries run from AED 5,000 to AED 30,000 a month, across 12 banks.

Cap first, rate second

Multiply your monthly fuel spend by the rate and stop at the published cap. That figure, not the percentage, is what the card pays you for driving.

Salik and tolls are separate

Toll top-ups and Salik recharges are usually coded as government or transport spending, not fuel, and often earn a much lower rate or nothing at all. A card that names Salik explicitly is worth more to a daily commuter.

Station networks matter

Some offers name ADNOC, ENOC, EPPCO or Emarat specifically. If the offer is network-bound, the card only pays where that brand operates, which in practice splits along the Dubai and Abu Dhabi boundary.

Fuel cashback credit card questions

The top of this page holds the highest published fuel rates in the market. Every one of them caps the category monthly, so the best card for you is the one whose cap covers your own fuel bill rather than the one with the highest percentage.

Several cards here pay on fuel across all stations, and a few name a specific network. Where a card is tied to one operator the card page says so - that detail decides whether the offer is usable on your commute.

Not usually at the fuel rate. Banks code Salik and toll payments as government or transport spending, which typically earns a reduced rate. A handful of cards include Salik in the fuel category and those state it explicitly.

Yes - 8 of the 21 cards on this page have no annual fee. They generally pay less per litre than the paid cards, but with nothing to recover they can still be the better deal for moderate drivers.

On most UAE cards the fuel category is capped somewhere between AED 100 and AED 250 a month. The exact cap is on each card page, and it puts a hard ceiling on the annual value whatever the headline rate says.
