Free lounge access buying guide

Free lounge access, and the conditions attached to it

Complimentary lounge access on a no-fee card is real, but it is almost never as simple as showing the card at the door. Access is normally delivered through a network membership - Visa Airport Companion, Mastercard Travel Pass, LoungeKey, DragonPass - that you have to enrol in first, through the app, before you travel. Turning up without enrolling means paying at the desk.

Two conditions catch people out. Several networks now require a small qualifying transaction: from 1 June 2026 Visa asks for a USD 1 foreign-currency transaction at least ten days before the visit, and Mastercard Travel Pass asks for a USD 1 international transaction in the preceding three months. Emirates NBD applies a separate AED 5,000 minimum monthly spend across its card benefits. Guests are chargeable on nearly every card in this list.

Every one of the 26 cards on this page has no annual fee at all. Minimum salaries run from AED 5,000 to AED 40,000 a month, across 10 banks.

Enrol before you fly

The membership is issued by the card network, not the bank, and it is not automatic. Download the app the card names, register the card, and check the pass has been issued before you travel.

Visits are counted per year

A card offering four visits a year is offering four, not four per trip and not four per cardholder. Supplementary cardholders usually draw on the same allowance unless the bank says otherwise.

Free for life means fee zero

Cards whose fee is merely waived in year one, or waived on hitting a spend target, are not on this page. Every card listed carries an annual fee of AED 0 under normal terms.

Yes - 26 of them, from 10 banks, all listed on this page with no annual fee at all. They range from a few complimentary visits a year up to unlimited access, and the ranking above puts the most generous first.

The cards marked "Unlimited visits" at the top of the table. Unlimited normally covers the primary cardholder only, and guests are charged at the lounge rate, so a travelling family should read the guest policy on the card page before relying on it.

Almost always. Most cards deliver access through Visa Airport Companion, Mastercard Travel Pass, LoungeKey or DragonPass, and each needs app enrolment first. Several also require a small qualifying transaction before the visit, and a bank may apply a monthly spend rule on top.

These cards start at AED 5,000 a month and run to AED 40,000. Lounge access on a no-fee card usually starts in the mid salary bands rather than at entry level.
